image It’s time to announce the 2008 Macsimum Macworld Awards, given in recognition of the best products we’ve seen at this year’s Macworld Conference & Expo. The judging committee was Yours Truly, Daniel East and Frank Petrie. So without further ado the awards go to:

° MacBook Air: it’s a better, if pricey, companion to another Mac than a full-fledged Mac itself, but, darn, it’s sleek, sexy and perfect for a business traveler who needs to do email, Net surfing and word processing

° MacSpeech Dictate: the next generation of speech technology for the Mac.

° Bento: FileMaker has truly offered the personal database for the rest of us.

° BannerZest, a way-cool a flash presentation tool for professional and amateur web designers.

° NewerTech’s Guardian MAXimus: the fastest drive with the biggest oomph in the smallest form we’ve seen. If it were only named the Guardian Macsimum, it would be perfect.

° Gee Three’s Slick Effects for Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express 4: Gee Three’s great video effects, non-compatible with iMovie ‘08 (sob), live on (hooray).

° Microsoft Office 2008: It ships this week and we really wanted to dismiss it, but we can’t lie: it has lots of cool, very Mac-ish features and Mac OS integration.

° Canon’s VIXIA HG10, a High Definition camcorder coming in March with a great design, stunning video and up to a 40GB internal hard drive with pricing starting at $899.

° The BT-368 GPS Receiver from GlobalStat, which offers Bluetooth technology, a SIRF Star III high performance chipset, Globalsat power-saving technology and lots more in a teeny form factor. Go to http://www.usglobalsat.com for more info.

° EyeTV 3, a marvelous update to a great project.

° The TubeStick hybrid with TubeStick software and TubeToGo feature—at least Elgato and EyeTV have some serious competition.

° Photoshop Elements 6: a rev of the great app for those of us who don’t need all the power of Photoshop itself.

° The HP Photosmart Pro B8850 Photo Printer, an excellent printer for serious amateur photographers.

° Hear, a nifty new audio enhancing utility (it’s not yet publicly available).

The “Macsimum MWSF 2007 Coupon Book” is available for download. You can find it here and print it as a PDF. It has discounts, special offers and promotions in conjunction with the upcoming Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco.
